Champion is an athletic brand founded in 1920 by the Feinbloom brothers, succeeding their predecessor company, Knickerbocker Knitting, which was established in New York in 1919. It is a leading brand of college sweatshirts, but its origins date back to 1924. The company, which had previously produced knitwear for U.S. military schools, used its technology to produce sweatshirts and supplied them to the University of Michigan's sports teams. The reputation of high-quality, inexpensive sweatshirts spread from coach to coach, and its market share quickly expanded throughout the United States. Its popularity extended beyond athletes, and it became established as daily wear for students and a representative item of American casual wear. In Japan, too, its popularity and recognition are high, and its masterpiece, the "Reverse Weave," is extremely famous. A timeless classic that needs no introduction, this is the USA-distributed model of Champion's "Reverse Weave." The name comes from the fact that the weave of the fabric is reversed to reduce vertical shrinkage after washing. Furthermore, ribbing is added to the side panels to ensure horizontal stretch. Combining durability and ease of movement, this model boasts an overwhelming market share in the US college sports scene and has become a staple item in American casual wear. This particular model is the "S101," which features a single-color blue tag used in the 1970s on the neck tag. It is a US Champion print body exclusive model number (commonly known as the Bookstore) and is characterized by the absence of the eye logo on the chest. This is a rare model that is not generally available.
